Mark Heard

Mark received his Medical Degree from the University of Calgary and completed an orthopaedic residency at the University of Ottawa and a Clinical Fellowship in Arthroscopic Surgery and Sport Medicine at Carlton University in Ottawa.
Since 1992 he has practiced as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Banff and is also a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine. Mark teaches nationally and internationally and his main area of research interest is outcomes following knee ligament reconstruction. Additionally, he is currently a consulting surgeon for Canadian Alpine and Snow Sports and the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides
Mark is involved in several sport medicine organizations including the International Association of Arthroscopic, Knee and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), the Canadian Orthopaedic Association (COA), and the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise.
He is the 2019 recipient of the prestigeous Jan I. Gillquist Scientific Research Award for the 1st place scientific paper read at the 2019 Biennial ISAKOS Congress.
A long-time resident of Canmore Mark has a passion for outdoor recreation including, skiing, biking, mountaineering and kayaking. He is a past member of the Canadian Whitewater Kayaking/Canoe Team.
